The Benefits of Research Before Choosing an Online Dating Site

Perhaps at one point or another in our life, we have created an account for an online dating site. While thousands of dating sites are available in the world wide web, it pays to also check out the sites that suit to one's taste and preference, and of course, financial capacity. There are many sites that boasted themselves as top dating sites, but in the end, they cheat on you and leave you hanging.

That is why, it is always beneficial to do a little research before choosing an online dating site. A site that has a wide variety of members is already good to start with. It can increase your chances to find a wide range of potential match. It is also wiser to consider sites that doesn't allow display of private information like email address or telephone numbers. You must understand that this strictness on the part of the site will work out for your benefit. It will protect you from being spammed by interested individuals you might not want to have contact with.

The matchmaking method is also another thing that you should importantly look into. Several sites may send you few matches and then tailor the next matches based on your responses. Other sites use tags and key matches. Whatever the method may be, it is up to you. The best thing to do is to ask people in forum websites to receive feed backs from people who are into dating sites. The best testimonies often come from them. Try to visit the product comparison site, Consumer-Rankings.com because it provides lots of information and categories related to online dating. They also provide tips for avoiding online dating scams.

Aga, Now Under TV5

Photo is loading...
Aga Muhlach (photo) has been quiet about his move from ABS-CBN to TV5 after the news leaked out early this year.

But yesterday at a presscon, he finally announced that he’s now a certified Kapatid.

He confirmed that he recently signed a contract with TV5 to join the network’s growing stable of versatile and well-known stars who have outstanding track records in the industry.

Truly becoming the home of the best and the brightest talents, TV5 is deemed as the fastest rising network offering innovative programming that sets industry trends and changes the Philippine broadcast landscape.

With a big name such as Aga on board, TV5 is well on its way to making bigger programs that will continue the network’s winning streak in the ratings game.

“We are excited to start working with Aga because we have great plans for him. We’re planning to do a series for him, give him a hosting job for a game show, and another program that’s totally different from what he does,” said TV5 Creatives and Entertainment Production head Perci Intalan.

Aga is also thrilled with the new work environment he will soon immerse himself in. According to him, he will be devoting more time to his TV commitments.

Venus Raj Versus Bianca Manalo

Floyd Challenges Manny to Take the Test

Is the planned Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. showdown really dead? Not at all, according to Mayweather.

Speaking today at Afternoon Saloon, a radio program by ESPN Chicago, Mayweather once again spoke publicly about him facing Pacquiao in what could be the richest fight in boxing, confirming that the proposed super fight could still take place.

His condition remains the same: Pacquiao should take random drug tests.

“The thing is this: I’m an American citizen and I represent this country with the red, white, and blue. The only thing I want is the people in my country to stand behind me. I’m in my own country and I have a lot of people against me. Our country is a great country, it’s a clean country, and all I ask him (Pacquiao) to do is take the test, that’s it,” said the brash boxer, holder of a sterling 41-0 record (with 25 KOs).

This marks the second time Mayweather touched upon the fight. Last week, Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum told Manila reporters that Mayweather was asking for a $100-million purse to face Pacquiao, an amount so huge that it possibly translates to Mayweather pricing himself out of the fight.

In the radio interview, however, Mayweather no longer stated an asking price, instead insisting for Pacquiao to subject himself to a series of random blood tests leading into the fight.

“He takes the test and we got a fight,” he said.

The issue of blood testing has been the primary roadblock to arranging a Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown. Pacquiao later agreed to take random blood tests 14 days before the fight.

Meanwhile, in the same interview, Mayweather found another opportunity to blast Pacquiao.

“You guys must realize this about Pacquiao, that’s just a media creation. That’s somebody who just came around. For someone to beat me would be abnormal, for someone to be him is normal because he has already been beaten three times and knocked out twice. It’s nothing new,” he said.

Commission on Human Rights Lambasted Willie Revillame for Child Abuse

The Commission on Human Rights today strongly condemned the controversial March 12,2011 episode of "Willing Willie," saying it constituted child abuse.

In a statement, Chairperson Loretta Ann Rosales and Commissioner for Children Ma. Victoria Cardona said they will investigate the incident and recommend proper legal actions against those responsible for what they described as "an exploitation of the child's innocence and demeans his inherent dignity for entertainment's sake."

CHR said the "multiple pressures exerted on Jan-Jan by the TV program's host, audience, and his parents to perform a humiliating act in exchange for ten thousand pesos constitute child abuse as defined in Section 10 of R.A. No. 7610 or "Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act."

The law provides that "any person who shall commit any other acts of child abuse, cruelty or exploitation or to be responsible for other conditions prejudicial to the child's development ..shall suffer the penalty of prision mayor in its minimum period."

"The willingness of Jan-Jan's parents to expose him, both in private and public, to a humiliating and degrading situation is child abuse. The Commission is also deeply alarmed that the abuse suffered by Jan-Jan was seen on national television and that its videos are being repeatedly watched by the public, including children," CHR said..

The Commission said they will investigate this incident in order to identify the person/s liable and to recommend proper legal actions against them.

The statement further said, "The Commission will also issue recommendations to relevant private, especially TV5, and public agencies in order to prevent similar incidents from happening again."

They called on relevant government offices such as the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of Justice to undertake the appropriate actions to address this incidence of child abuse and to provide the necessary relief to Jan-Jan.

Willie Revillame Faces Another Controversy, DSWD Says a Boy was Abused in ‘Willing Willie’

March 28, 2011

MR. MANNY V. PANGILINAN
Chairman
ABC Development Corporation

Dear Mr. Pangilinan:

This is with regard to the 12 March 2011 episode of your show “Willing Willie”, which was brought to my attention by several concerned citizens and groups. In the said episode, a six year-old boy named Jan-Jan Estrada was made to repeatedly perform dance moves usually done by adult dancers in indecent shows. The poor child was in tears and looked scared the entire time, as show host Willie Revillame poked fun at him and the audience laughed and cheered.

Under Republic Act No.7610, also known as “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act”, the term “child abuse” includes the following acts: “psychological and physical abuse, neglect, cruelty, sexual abuse and emotional maltreatment,” and “any act by deeds or words which debases, degrades or demeans the intrinsic worth and dignity of the child as a human being.”

Given that definition, it is unmistakable that what happened last 12 March 2011 to Jan-Jan Estrada was child abuse.

Persuading a little child to dance sexy adult dances in exchange for a measly sum, while he is being laughed at and ridiculed will definitely traumatize the child. What kind of values are we teaching our children through these shows, especially after Willie Revillame pushed Jan-Jan to do something against his will and then told him that it’s alright because he will receive money in exchange for it?

Given the foregoing, I am requesting that:

(1) Young children not be allowed to appear in Willing Willie and other similar shows in the network that cashes in on poverty;

(2) Host Willie Revillame be rebuked for his insensitive and deplorable actions.

There are limits to children appearing on television, and clearly, your 12 March 2011 episode did not respect the rights of the child and traumatized the six year-old boy. I also wish to raise my concern that the show tends to cash in on the plight of the poor. There are other ways of helping the poor without having to degrade their dignity and earn money out of it.

I hope you can act on this swiftly and I would appreciate a response from your good office.

Thank you.

Very truly yours,

(sgd.)

CORAZON JULIANO SOLIMAN
Secretary

TV5 Releases Statement Regarding the March 12 Episode of ‘Willing Willie’

Here is TV5′s official statement regarding the recent controversy involving its main host Willie Revillame and the 6-year-old Willing Willie contestant Jan-Jan Suan:

Mr. Willie Revillame, the producers of “Willing Willie” and TV5 sincerely and deeply apologize for the segment of the show featuring 6-year-old Jan-Jan Suan which viewers may have found offensive or in bad taste. We wish to stress that there was never any intention to humiliate or abuse Jan-Jan or any contestant on the show.

“Willing Willie” is a program that was conceptualized to bring joy and hope and shine the spotlight on ordinary Filipinos. The program aims to provide a venue for everyone to show their talents, tell their stories and make their dreams come true. This is the thrust of everyone involved in the program, particularly its host, Willie Revillame.

Like most contestants on the show, Jan-Jan, accompanied by his aunt, joined the program to showcase his talent and play in a game segment in the hope of bringing home big prizes. He has performed in the past in school programs and mall contests, and his performance in “Willing Willie” was completely voluntary and with the blessings of his parents. He appeared to be sad or even in tears, not because he was being forced to dance, but because he felt the dance was “serious” and he was playing a role. He did not want to smile because of his missing upper front teeth and because of the presence on the set of former basketball player Bonel Balingit who Jan-jan thought was a scary “giant”.

Again, TV5 and Wil Productions express profound regret for any insensitivity on their part, and wish to thank all those who have expressed concern. We are always grateful to be reminded of our obligations to the viewing public. In turn, we hope to make clear that the objective of the show has always been to bring joy and hope to Filipinos, whether they are participating on the show or viewing at home.

WWF: 1,554 Philippine towns, cities participated in Earth Hour 2011

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) -- A record-breaking 1,554 towns and cities in the Philippines switched off their lights for 60 minutes on Saturday evening for Earth Hour, an event where the world takes a stand against climate change, the World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-Philippines) said today.

"When the clock struck 08:30 p.m. last night, the Philippines was again engulfed in 60 minutes of darkness," WWF-Philippines said in a statement, adding that Saturday's switch-off exceeded the 2010 figures by 478 towns and cities.

"We are elated to clinch the top spot for the third year in a row," said Earth Hour National Director Atty. Gia Ibay.

"This year's switch-off merely signifies the start of a yearlong pledge to minimize our ecological impacts and to do our bit for a more sustainable planet," Ibay added.

The WWF estimated that well over 15 million Filipinos joined this year's switch-off.

March 26 is Earth Hour 2011

LETS MAKE A DIFFERENCE! SAVE THE EARTH FROM CLIMATE CHANGE!

March 26, 2011 8:30 - 9:30 PM ( Local time )

2010 Earth hour:
Earth Hour 2010 was held from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time, March 27. In Israel, the hour was held on April 22.

Earth Hour 2010 was reportedly the biggest Earth Hour yet, aiming to garner more than the one billion participant goal of 2009's Earth Hour.

126 countries participated in Earth Hour 2010.

In the United States polling shows that an estimated 90,000,000 Americans participated in Earth Hour as lights were turned off around the country, including iconic landmarks such as Mount Rushmore, the Las Vegas Strip, the Empire State Building and Niagara Falls.

Earth Hour will be carried out in practical ways, as cities and landmarks apply the core principle of turning off the lights to their everyday routine. In Chicago, the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) developed lighting guidelines to reduce light pollution, and reduce the carbon footprint of downtown buildings. Mount Rushmore in South Dakota will now start powering down each night around 9 p.m. instead of 11 p.m.

In Vietnam, electricity demand fell 500,000 kWh during Earth Hour 2010, which was three times larger than the first time the country joined the event in 2009.

In the Philippines, 1,067 towns and cities pledged participation in 2010 and over 15 million Filipinos participated in the event.

About 4000 cities participated, including landmarks such as Big Ben, the Empire State Building, the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, the Parthenon, the Brandenburg Gate, and the Forbidden City.

Celebrity Earth Hour ambassadors included South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark, President of Vietnam Nguyễn Minh Triết, and London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Earth Hour has garnered support from many corporations including Coca-Cola Enterprises, Wells Fargo, IKEA, HSBC, PwC, Accenture and Nokia Siemens Networks.

Some critics point out that the reduction in power consumption in most cases is indistinguishable from zero. Sydney's The Herald Sun equated the power savings in the Sydney central business district to "taking 48,613 cars off the road for 1 hour." Critics, most notably Australian Columnist Andrew Bolt pointed out that "A cut so tiny [48,613 cars off the road for 1 hour] is trivial - equal to taking six cars off the road for a year".

Miss World Philippines to Air on GMA-7

While Bb. Pilipinas transferred to ABS-CBN, its rival pageant Miss World Philippines will air on GMA-7.

Last January, Bb. Pilipinas via its chairperson Stella Araneta Marquez has inked a deal with ABS-CBN. For the next 5 years, the Bb. Pilipinas annual pageant will no longer air on GMA-7 as it will now be seen on the Kapamilya network.

Also earlier this year, Bb. Pilipinas has lost the franchise of the prestigious Miss World pageant to Cory Quirino‘s CQ Global Quest Inc. The said company will now hold the search for the country’s representative to Miss World pageant beginning this year.

Now a significant rival of Bb. Pilipinas, CQ Global Quest Inc. inked a deal with GMA Network for the production and airing of Miss World Philippines 2011.

Top 10 Countries with Most Beautiful Women

Countries With The Most Beautiful Women
Some of you may have read my article on cities with the most beautiful women, this however is about the countries with the most beautiful women. It's always possible to find a city with beautiful women in a land of not-so-amazingly beautiful women. These places on the other hand, are entire countries with beautiful women.

10. Denmark
I've been to Denmark many times, & I can say that I've not found anything rotten there to date. And definitely not the women, the women here are as striking as they come. A lot like their Swedish neighbours, the women of Denmark are remarkable in their beauty & their charm.

9. Netherlands
Dutch girls have to be some of the world's most amazing. Sure I'm only ranking the country as number nine, which is good when you take into account how many nations there are on this earth. But this list is only taking beauty into consideration, Dutch women have more than that, they're complete, they're incredible, they're the kind of girls who hang out drinking wine in the park with you randomly philosophizing, & they're also the kind of girls who will makeout with you in that same very park. (If they like you of course, this is not a poor country, it's about who you are, the girls here aren't impressed by status or anything like that.)

8. Estonia
Ahh & now the Eastern European countries come into play. Estonia is a very small country, & seemingly insignificant, but it's astonishing if only because of the girls. Beautiful they are, you can find some of the world's best looking women in any nightclub in Tallinn's Old Town, on any day of the week.

7. Ukraine
The Black Sea coast of the Ukraine is world famous for gorgeous girls in scantily clad bathing suits. And rightly so, but more so than that the entire country is filled to the brims with beautiful women. From Odessa to Kiev, the Ukraine beauty.

6. Belarus
It's often been said that Eastern Europe is the valley of beautiful women, & in that context Belarus is one of the more fertile spots. Sure the country may be drab, dreary, & socialist architecture reigns supreme, but the women are to die for. They manage to turn this country from extremely boring, to a place you never want to leave.

5. Latvia
Where I sit as of the time I write this article. Latvia is just wondrous. This little Baltic nation, such a small country, with hardly no international fame or reputation, is home to some of the world's most beautiful girls hands down. Drop-dead beauties roam the streets, & they're friendly too, can't beat that now can you?

4. Bulgaria
Bulgaria may as well change its name to "Beautyland" as it is a proverbial theme park of beautiful women. Everything from dark hair to light, & from bright eyes to well brighter eyes. Bulgaria is filled with amazing women all the way from the mountainous region of the capital Sofia to the beautiful beaches on the Black Sea coast.

3. Russia
This list has pretty much read out as an Eastern European geography lesson, & with good reason. Slavic women are the most beautiful overall in the world, & Russia is the big leagues as far as Eastern Europe goes. The women here are not only beautiful, they're seductive. With one glance they can capture your heart, they look at you as if they know they could do anything in the world & you'd like it, & basically that's true.

2. Argentina
Argentina is definitely the cream of the crop as far as Latin America, well really as far as the whole Western Hemisphere goes. Argentineans, specifically those of Buenos Aires are a people made up mostly of Italian migrants from the 19th & early 20th century, but I must say that they must have been migrants from Milan all with super model genes, because the people here are stunning.

1. Sweden
Of course Sweden lands at the number one spot. How could it not, it's Sweden for goodness sake! The women here are so ridiculously beautiful that it's hard to breathe sometimes when in their presence. Blond hair, & bright eyes, personalities that are beautiful to match, what more could anyone ever ask for?

About Gambling Online

When I went to Macau, I was toured by my friends to the country's biggest casinos. They asked to give a try playing the beginner's luck. It was unforgettable. I won and happily left Macau with a descent amount of money for more shopping galore when I arrived back in Hongkong.

Recently, these same friends of mine asked me to try online casino gambling. Though I considered myself lucky in the games of chances, I have to admit I never tried online casino games. I am not even familiar with online games but my friends already gave me hints that "Eagle's Wings", slot games and blackjack games are great to start with.

I think I will try soon. As of now, I am reading casino website reviews to make myself informed and to also avoid online scams. I also visited forums to better interact with playing communities. In this way, I received feedbacks from online players. And oh, they also give me tips too.

Government urges Filipinos in Libya to return

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The government today reiterated its call to the remaining Filipinos in Libya to leave the country in view of the deteriorating situation there.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in an interview with state-run radio Radyo ng Bayan that the government is hoping that Filipinos who have decided to stay put in Libya would be persuaded to come home, especially with the western air strikes against the government forces of Libya.

"We are hoping to convince them also to leave for their own safety. We are hoping that those who go to our embassy in Libya will be convinced to leave Libya because of the worsening situation there," said Valte.

Asked about job opportunities for returning workers, Valte said labor officials have said that there are jobs waiting for these workers at home, though they will not be as well compensated.

She said labor officials are working hard to find new host countries for the displaced overseas workers.

Bianca Paz, Disqualified from Binibining Pilipinas 2011

STATEMENT FROM BIANCA PAZ ABOUT HER DISQUALIFICATION FROM BINIBINING PILIPINAS 2011

"I would like to clear things up regarding the issue for the FIRST and LAST time. To make a long story short, I took part in a calendar shoot 2 years ago which never came to mind as a possible hindrance for my participation in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant as I made sure that the finished result would not be less than tasteful and even of editorial standard before being published. Unfortunately, BPCI did not have the same opinion of the said shoot and so as of today I have been officially DISQUALIFIED. I would also like to make clear that there are NO, I repeat, NO nude photos or "sex videos" anywhere existing. I respect and accept BPCI's decision and refuse to make the issue any bigger than it already is. I only ask that everyone does the same and refrain themselves from making false judgements and ignorant accusations towards me and anyone else involved. At this point, its all very unnecessary. Instead, I encourage everyone to show support to all remaining candidates and... well... Enjoy the show! This is, after all, "entertainment". I want to thank everyone that has supported me. God bless and I love you all!"

South African Wins Mr. Gay World Again!

MANILA, Philippines—The rainbow nation bagged back-to-back victories in the Mister Gay World pageant when South African Francois Nel inherited the international title from compatriot Charl Van Den Berg in glittering ceremonies held in Mandaluyong City Sunday night.

The four-hour program, held in Club Mwah! in Mandaluyong City, gathered 23 international delegates for the pageant’s third edition, its first staging in Asia.

The 28-year-old South African impressed the judges with his wit and intelligence as he delivered strong answers to the questions asked in various stages of the competition.

During the semi-final interview, Nel said “same sex marriage is a human right. Love between a man and a man or whether between a man and a woman is not something to be determined by anybody else.” The predominantly gay audience punctuated the response with a resounding applause.

For the final round, host Boy Abunda asked all five finalists which world leader they would want to meet and what they will discuss with him or her.

Nel said he would like to meet former South African President Nelson Mandela, who he earlier described as his country’s greatest president.

“This man stands for everything that love means. He has certainly inspired all of us to be the rainbow nation,” he replied, adding “Mandela encompasses everything that humanity and human rights stand for.”

As Mister Gay World 2011, Nel is expected to visit various countries and speak on behalf of the LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) community. He will also be busy preparing for the pageant’s 2012 edition, which incidentally will be held in his country’s capital, Johannesburg.

After his proclamation, Nel told the Inquirer the victory means everything to him.

“I’m so excited to be working for LGBTI,” he exclaimed.

The show’s hosts Mariel Rodriguez, Toni Gonzaga, Randy Santiago and John Estrada were excited with the development. Although it was just a guesting, the group was reportedly dropped from Happy Yipee Yehey’s rival, the longest-running noontime show in the Philippines, “Eat Bulaga.” The reason for dropping them was “conflict of interest” according to the group’s manager, Joy Cancio.

Goodbye, Paquito Diaz

Photo is loading...

MANILA, Philippines - Paquito Diaz, one of the country’s “most hated” kontrabidas, succumbed to pneumonia at 9:45 Thursday night at his residence in Daraga, Albay. He was 78.

Only a week ago, a tabloid reported that Paquito had died, prompting his wife Nena (sister of actor Bob Soler) to comment that when a person is rumored to have died, it meant that he would live longer.

Paquito had been wheelchair-bound after he suffered a stroke in 2004 that paralyzed him. He was one of FPJ’s favorite kontrabida. In 1965, he won a FAMAS Best Supporting Actor award for Ang Mananandata, an FPJ starrer. His brother Romy Diaz, also a kontrabida, died a few years ago.

Introduced in Premiere Productions’ Pandora in 1955, Paquito graduated from FEU where he was a basketball player.

When he was diagnosed with pneumonia, Paquito was confined at the ICU of a hospital in Albay. He got better and was brought home where he died.

Paquito is survived also by his children, among them actors Cheska and Joko; and 14 grandchildren.

His remains are at the Salvacion Funeral Homes in Legazpi City. They will be transferred to the Funeraria Paz at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City tomorrow, March 6, and will be cremated.

Six Kidnappers Captured in Bukidnon

COTABATO CITY, Philippines (Xinhua) - Security forces captured six men involved in the abduction of Chinese-Filipino traders in the restive south, local police said today.

The suspects, according to local police chief Inspector Adolfo Mercado, were arrested around 2:00 p.m. Friday at a checkpoint in the township of Talakag in Bukidnon province.

"Our men apprehended them. About three hand guns, fake police uniforms and packaging tapes were seized from them," Mercado said.

"We suspect they were also engaged in the abduction of Chinese Filipino traders in the region," Mercado said.

Lawmen said suspects, Malik Guro, Abdul Dalahig, Sou Daud Untonga, Kader Mutya, Abdul Raco and Kadafi Guro, could have been members of a kidnapping-for-ransom group operating in the region. A number of kidnapping cases among local Chinese have transpired in the region.

On Oct. 8 last year in Cotabato City, gunmen seized Conchita Atienza Tan, 73, wife of a hardware shop owner. A family driver and security personnel died when they shot back at the suspects. Tan was released after her family paid ransom money to her captors.

In Defense of Roxanne Cabanero

(This is from a comment from a certain Jeff De Lara which he wrote at missosology)

Let us set the record straight.

ROXANNE CABANERO was not removed or disqualified by the BBPCI because it was discovered that she had nude pictures. The BBPCI at first requested CABANERO to resign because according to them, they could not afford to take controversies at the moment that they are busy in the preparations for the pageant. The suggestion to CABANERO was likewise in recognition of the ongoing investigation being conducted by the NBI on the Complaint filed by CABANERO, against the blogger who maliciously declared that it was her who was depicted in the nude pictures.

To reiterate, CABANERO from the very start declared that it was not her.

It is quite appalling that while the BBPCI did not make any declaration to the effect that the reason for CABANERO’s resignation and/or removal, however way you would like to put it was because she had nude pictures, irresponsible writers, and readers alike are quick to judge her like she was already guilty. I am sure that the BBPCI people are smart enough not to jump into such conclusions knowing fully-well that an official investigation by the NBI is yet to be completed. They know fully-well that to declare that CABANERO was the one depicted in the nude pictures without the benefit of a completed investigation would open the BBPCI to potential lawsuits to be filed by CABANERO and her lawyers.

If this was the case, why should irresponsible writers and readers alike jump the gun into making rumors and conclusions of their own when these irresponsible commentaries are only destroying the reputation of the person concerned, whose heart has been damaged by the fact that she has not joined the pageant which she has been dreaming of since childhood. Isn’t it enough for us to know that she had already given up a dream that we even have to make up stories against her that only compounded her miseries?

Let us be civil and logical please in thinking that if CABANERO was really the one depicted in the nude pictures, why did she have to file a Complaint in the NBI knowing fully-well that there is a chance the Bureau can discover that she was the same person thereby opening herself to the risk of being charged with perjury? Why should she join the BB Pilipinas in the first place if there was the risk that the organizers would find out later on that she had a dark past after all. I, and several others who have known CABANERO can attest to the fact that apart from having a beautiful personality, she likewise possesses the intelligence and wisdom not to indulge in stupidity.

Let us not put judgment on someone without knowing the facts first. For if this was the case, any woman intending to join the pageant may be arbitrarily destroyed by making up false stories against her just so that she could either resign because of the pressure or the BBPCI itself applying the pressure to push a candidate to resign. Either way, to do so is not only unfair but malicious.

ROXANNE CABANERO is after all a human being too, capable of being hurt.

1974 Miss Universe Amparo Muñoz, RIP

1974 Miss Universe Amparo Muñoz (of Spain) has died at her home in Malaga last Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011.

Amparo has a soft spot in the hearts of Filipinos because she won her title in the Philippines when the pageant was held here for the first time in 1974. The second time, in 1994, it was Sushmita Sen of India who bagged the Miss U crown. Amparo’s first runner-up was Wales’ Helen Morgan who went on to win the Miss World title but was shortly dethroned when she was discovered to be an unwed mother.

The stunning Spanish beauty came back to do a movie with another Miss Universe, Gloria Diaz (1969), titled Hayop sa Ganda, and went home in a huff after she clashed with a producer/talent-scout with whom she swapped court charges. Back in Spain, she became an instant celebrity because of her beauty title.

“She ventured into the movies and starred with some of Spain’s popular actors including Nino Bravo, Pedro Carrasco, Rocio Durcal and Camelo Sesto,” added Felix. “In 1979, she acted in the comedy Mama Turns 100, followed by Todo un Hombre (He’s All A Man) in 1982, Familia with Fernando Leon de Aranoa, A Paradise Under the Stars in 1999 and El Tahur in 2003.”

Her Filipino fans haven’t heard anything about Amparo, until several years later when she was wrongly reported to have died of a sex-related ailment.

Amparo’s three marriages all ended in divorce.

So private has Amparo become that her funeral was limited to members of the family, reported her brother Pedro.
