Rape Victim: Mangudadatus Asked to Drop Case
DAVAO CITY -- The nursing student who was allegedly raped by members of the Mangudadatu clan in Maguindanao province said the suspects' family offered her money to withdraw the case.
Datu Naga Mitra Mangudadatu and his cousin alias Puti, both of Tamnag in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat, are facing rape charges before a Regional Trial Court here for raping the 20-year-old student. Similar case has been filed against their bodyguards, but the public prosecutor dismissed it for lack of merit.
In her affidavit, the victim said several relatives of the Mangudadatus were building communication with her, enticing her to drop the case. But, she said, she refused the offer.
Marie (not her real name) said she was raped by the two accused inside Mangudadatu's rented room on Roxas Avenue.
She said the incident happened 11 p.m. of July 21, 2010 while she and her two male friends were having a drinking spree at the ground floor of her Dormitel on Padre Faura street.
She said one of Mangudadatu's bodyguards offered them a bottle of beer, which they consumed in 15 minutes.
Moments later, Mangudadatu appeared and invited them to continue the drinking session in his room. She said that because of Mangudadatu's persistence, she had finally agreed.
In the middle of their drinking session, Mangudadatu allegedly instructed her friends to go out of the room, who were followed by his bodyguards.
When only the two of them were left inside the room, Marie said Mangudadatu switched off the lights and allegedly raped her despite her resistance.
After Mangudadatu, Marie claimed that alias Puti also raped her. Marie said Mangudadatu threatened to kill her if she tells anyone or even the press about her ordeal.
On August 2, of the same year, she informed her landlord and her father, who was in Oman, about the incident, leading to the filing of the case. (Jereco O. Paloma of Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)

Nonito Donaire Knocks Out Fernando Montiel

ilipino bantamweight boxer Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire proved himself relentless after dethroning Mexican opponent Fernando Montiel in their headliner fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila).
In a quick match, Donaire stopped Montiel via a technical knockout (KO) in the second round.
In the first round, Montiel showed that he has experience and skills in the division by consistently evading Donaire's attacks.
Donaire kept being aggressive but his punches failed to land on Montiel.
In the second round, Donaire then played it down by accepting Montiel's attacks. The Filipino played with his improved defense and evaded the countering Montiel.
A minute before the round concluded, an energetic Donaire then powered a left hook to Montiel's face knocking him down to victory.
With the win, the 28-year-old bagged the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight crowns.
Donaire now ups his record to 26-1 with 18 KOs.
Montiel, on the other hand, falls at 44-3-2.
Montiel cannot make the post-fight press conference as he was sent to the hospital.
According to a tweet by Top Rank promotions, Montiel "was sent to the hospital to be checked due to the way he was knocked out."

The Best Medical Scrubs
What I like about this Blue Sky Scrubs is its quality made products. I have proven it myself with my cousin who is a registered nurse in one of the biggest hospitals here in the Philippines. She purchased a hospital nurse uniform online and it was delivered to her very efficiently. She testified that it was superb. "I feel like a supermodel whenever I wear it," she said proudly.
16 Towns, Now Cities (Again!)
For the third time, the Supreme Court has reversed itself in the case concerning the declaration of 16 towns as cities. Voting 7-6 with two abstentions at the high tribunal's en banc (full court) session last Tuesday, SC spokesperson Jose Midas Marquez said the court affirmed the constitutionality of the cityhood laws converting the following municipalities as cities:
Lamitan in Basilan;
Baybay in Leyte;
Bogo in Cebu;
Catbalogan in Samar;
Tandag in Surigao del Sur;
Borongan in Samar;
Tayabas in Quezon;
Tabuk in Kalinga;
Bayugan in Agusan del Sur;
Batac in Ilocos Norte;
Mati in Davao Oriental;
Guihulngan in Negros Oriental;
Cabadbaran in Agusan del Norte;
El Salvador in Misamis Oriental;
Carcar in Cebu; and
Naga in Cebu.
The court’s latest ruling is its fourth judgment on the case. The first decision was rendered on Nov. 18, 2008, declaring as unconstitutional the Republic Acts (RAs) converting the municipalities into cities. The second decision was made on Dec. 21, 2009, reversing the Nov. 2008 decision and ruling that the towns can be declared as cities. Last August 24, 2010, the SC made its second reversal and reinstated its Nov. 2008 decision. — Sophia Dedace/RSJ, GMA News

Team Sharon or Team Hayden

The controversial celebrity doctor Hayden Kho is now again in the limelight of controversy after allegedly attacking Megastar Sharon Cuneta's billboard ad in EDSA on Twitter. On January 28, 2011 Hayden Kho tweeted,
“There’s a billboard ad in Edsa developed by advertisers who think consumers are stupid. Guess.”
He did not mention which ad but people can't help referring it to Sharon Cuneta's Marie France ad below:
The Megastar was not at all happy of what she heard from people. In an interview Sharon Cuneta said,
“Kung totoo ‘yon, ang kapal ng mukha niya!
“As far as I’m concerned, stupid people shouldn’t comment on what is stupid or not! If I may add to that: Decent people are (the only) people I would like to listen to. Not those who do not know the meaning of decency. And who treat women like they’re nothing! Excuse me!” She added, “You want to start a war with me? You? Fix all your problems first”, Cuneta continued.
Hayden Kho, on the other hand, was surprised on the actress's reaction. He said,
“Wow! I wasn’t referring to the MF billboard. I was referring to a “L**D” that’s supposed to be a LOURDES. Dahan dahan naman po,” he Tweeted. “That was quite a wounding tirade from someone I respect. Ironic, really. Very ironic.”

Willie and Friends
John and Randy accepted an offer from ABS-CBN to host its new noontime show, "Happy Yipee Yehey!," which is set to premiere on Saturday, February 12. Their longtime friend, Willie Revillame, was upset by their move, claiming he had arranged for them to be part of an upcoming TV5 show with the network's top bosses. The three had headlined the ABS-CBN noontime show "Magandang Tanghali Bayan" from 1998-2005.
Days after Willie castigated them on air in his show "Willing Willie" last January 28, John announced his departure from his TV sitcom "Everybody Hapi" and the Sunday noontime variety show "PO5".
"John has taped his last episode of ‘PO5' and his remaining epsiodes (of ‘Everybody Hapi') will be airing this month," We would have wanted to finish the rest of the season for both shows but John opted not to finish them na, I guess he is starting to work on his daily show on abs-cbn. We wish him well and hope to one day be able to work with him again," Perci said in another text message.
However, John claimed that he was axed from "Everbody Hapi" in a press conference of his new noontime show on Tuesday, February 8. Because of this, he said, he was forced to resign from "PO5" and instead granted the broadcast rights of his wedding to Priscilla Meirelles to ABS-CBN.

Maricar Reyes Interview

Just how long can Philippine star Maricar Reyes pursue a show biz career while strictly maintaining her privacy?
So far she has limited her encounters with the press--lest some inquisitive reporters dare ask about a certain controversy that could've pushed less obstinate souls to go on exile.
But she remains very visible in the scene, primarily because of her role on the ABS-CBN primetime series "Imortal" and her endorsement deal with jewelry firm Karat World.
After some initial hesitation from her handlers, she finally agreed to lift her veil of mystery via an e-mail interview with the Inquirer.
A doctor by profession, Maricar related that she's able to shuttle between the two worlds rather effortlessly.
"I prioritize," she explained. "These days, more time is devoted to acting. Maybe there will come a season when I'll be involved in other endeavors."
She considers medicine her day job.
"I want to maintain a certain level of professionalism in both my careers as a doctor and as an actress," she pointed out.
Do her patients do a double-take whenever she takes their blood pressure?
"They are surprised," she conceded. "But honestly their reaction doesn't last that long."
It can be disconcerting, especially when a patient realizes that this doctor plays a supernatural creature on television.
Is that what she finds exciting about her "night" job? "She can leap tall buildings in a single bound," she quipped.
She hopes to do an indie film soon: "Anything different is worth exploring."
On top of medicine and acting, she has found a new job as jewelry designer for Karat World. "I share my ideas and suggestions," she related.
She described her fashion philosophy as "simple and classic." She looks up to Audrey Hepburn and Angel Aquino as style icons: "They still look elegant even in simple clothes. It's in the way they carry themselves."

Luis Manzano Reacts on Jasmine Curtis Kissing Issue

So, kadiri lang.
"I mean, everything in itself, yung instance, sabihin nating totoo yun, magkakasama kaming nag-dinner, ako, si Anne, si Jasmine...basta marami kami. I think that was a Saturday.
"Ako, kailangan ko nang umuwi kasi may ASAP pa ako the next day. So, si Jasmine, sabi sa akin, 'Okey lang ba sumabay?' kasi may P.O.5 din siya kinabukasan.
"So, okey, sabay kami, hinatid ko siya. Beso, hug, alis. Nothing more, nothing less.
Si Luis ay turning 30 na this year, while Jasmine is only 17.
