Aljur Abrenica Named Best Asian Model at the 2011 Asia Model Festival

After bagging the title role in GMA’s new teleserye “Machete”, Aljur Abrenica has just been named “Best Asian Model” at the 2011 Asia Model Festival Awards (AMFA) which is being held annually in Korea.

This year’s event was held yesterday, January 21, at the JW Marriott Hotel in Seoul, South Korea and was participated by 13 Asian countries including the Philippines.

StarStruck V’s Ultimate Female Survivor Sarah Lahbati was supposed to compete in the event but because of her busy schedules shooting her afternoon soap “Little Star,” she was not able to join.

Last year, their fellow Kapuso stars Rhian Ramos and Victor Aliwalas received the Female and Male Model Star awards respectively.

American Idol Season 10 Early Favorites

Season 10 of American Idol premiered Wednesday to much fanfare and for good reason: two new judges, rocker Steven Tyler and pop star Jennifer Lopez, sat at the table ruled by Simon Cowell for so many years.

That said, the first try-outs did offer some promising talent. Robbie Rosen, for one. The 16-year-old from Merrick, New York could have tried out for O-Town back in 2000, but his voice went way beyond boy band gimmickry.

As it turns out, the 16-year-olds pretty much ruled the first round roost. There was Melinda Ademi, whose family fled war-torn Kosovo, and Travis Orlando, who bookended the first episode with a rousing rendition of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours," a perennial Idol favorite. Victoria Huggins was another talented teen, belting "Midnight Train to Georgia" with the gusto and enthusiasm of a Rachel Berry disciple. Also impressive: Devyn Rush, the singing waitress from Ellen's Stardust Diner in New York City, otherwise known as the pedestrian nightmare that is the corner of 51st Street and Broadway, the potentially hunky Caleb Hawley, and Briell Von Hugel, who's got music in her blood and a heartwarming backstory : the perfect "Idol" package.

It all made for a promising start until star-breasted Jersey girl Tiffany Rios made an appearance, though to her credit, the girl can sort of sing. Still, the joke contestants have always had a heavy presence in these early rounds and season 10 was no different, saving its silliest star, 25-year-old Yoji "Pop" Asano, for almost last. Talk about lost in translation, here was your quintessential somewhat delusional "Idol" hopeful putting on a circus show: Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A." sung in the key of tone deaf. Amusing? Sure, but both Lopez and Tyler looked like they want to press fast forward and get to the good stuff.

Early last year, there was also a plan to adapt the classic film into a TV series with Cristine Reyes as the top pick to play the iconic role but somehow the plan did not push through.

Now, there is another plan to revive the film on the big screen with Celso Ad Castillo, the original director, at the helm once again. And the top pick to play Chato is none other than Marian Rivera because according to experts, the role fits her perfectly. But can Marian throw her “wholesome” image and dare to play such role?

Aljur Abrenica is Hot in "Machete"

Pablo S. Gomez’s Machete is an upcoming Kapuso teleserye topbilled by GMA homegrown talent Aljur Abrenica. His leading ladies in the said teleserye are Ryza Cenon and Bela Padilla.

Ryan Eigenmann and Rocky Gutierrez will play the role of Aljur’s villains.

“Machete” the tv series is set to premiere on January 24, 2010 on GMA-7.

Sexbomb on ABS-CBN?

It was surprising to see Joy Cancio, choreographer and talent manager of the all-girl group SexBomb Girls giving a 'sample' of her dance antics in ABS-CBN's "Showtime" last Tuesday, January 4.

ancio's presence on the Kapamilya noontime show immediately sparked rumors that the group will transfer to ABS-CBN and become part of the upcoming local version of "The Price Is Right," which will be hosted by Kris Aquino.

Cancio dismissed the rumors but admitted she had sought to communicate with ABS-CBN to check if her talents can work for the Kapamilya network.

"The Baker King" Premieres Tonight

“Starting tonight (January 3), GMA Network brings to primetime TV the No. 1 Koreanovela of 2010, The Baker King.

The Baker King got audiences hooked in Korea with ratings hitting 50.8% and averaging 38.6% nationwide. It tells of brothers Kim Tak Gu and Matthew (Gu Ma Jun) competing with each other to dominate the baking industry.

Megan Young Not Joining Binibining Pilipinas 2011!

WELL ..... AT LEAST, NOT THIS YEAR .....

While Megan appears along with model Georgina Wilson in pageant fans' wishlist of who they want to see joining Binibining Pilipinas, the 20-year-old "Miss Universe material" has told METRO that she doesn't feel like joining the pageant...not yet.

"Everyone's been asking me that since I was 14. Sa akin lang, kailangan nasa puso. When it comes to things like the Bb. Pilipinas pageant, the whole country's involved. I won't do it unless I want to, and right now, I don't really feel like it."

Megan is only 20, so maybe after 3 years, she'll be ready to join the pageant.

And to those who wish to see Megan on a men's magazine cover, sorry guys 'coz she's totally not open to it. She's willing to pose in a lingerie only for a fashion magazine but not for a men's magazine. "I think you can be sexy without taking your clothes off. I don't do men's magazines. It's just not my thing. If you make me wear lingerie in a fashion magazine, it's fine because the context is different."
